SUMPTER — As Sumpter Valley transforms into a winter wonderland, the Sumpter Valley Railroad fires up the train again in December for special holiday rides.

A night train kicks off this special series of rides on Friday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for all ages.

On Saturday, Dec. 10, five rides are scheduled to leave from the Sumpter Station — 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

These are short runs, from Sumpter to the river and back. Each excursion includes cookies and hot chocolate at the depot.

Sunday, Dec. 11, features a “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” train at noon. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors/military and $11 for ages 3-17.

If you’re headed to Sumpter for a train ride, be sure to check out the Christmas celebration throughout the town on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Activities include food and drinks, a bazaar, decorations, music, burn barrels and a kids passport to win prizes.

The starlight parade happens at 5 p.m. Saturday.
